World time

Type a city in the search box or pick one from the list in the top right. You see the local time there, and the dial turns along with the sun: the red marker points at day or night, and at sunrise or sunset it sits exactly on the edge.

The address in full-screen mode remembers your choice, for example apps/worldtime.html?city=Tokyo. Handy as a bookmark or as a panel on a dashboard.

How it works

Sunrise and sunset times come from the free sunrise-sunset.org API. The dial divides each day and each night into 180°, so it shows how far the sun is through its day, not the clock time. In summer the day half turns slower than in winter.

The background follows the sun too: a sunrise photo from 45 minutes before until an hour after sunrise, a daytime photo, a sunset photo from an hour before until 45 minutes after sunset, and a night sky in between.
